Wow! Your whole post speaks to me. Wow. I went through a time of silence on my blog as well and am just now picking it up again. My horse died in June. I posted about that and didn’t go back until Advent. I so hear you about wordy words. There’s been a movement in my life to not feel I have to “fix it” when I listen to people which goes along with what you and Nouwen said about letting the Spirit do his/her work.

I have become aware of how much noise and distraction has come into my life. Johann Hari’s book Stolen Focus has spoken in ways that other books haven’t with regards to this.

I hope you write about climbing one day too. And maybe share some of those recipes.

At any rate thank you.

I'm so sorry about your horse, Katie. What a terrible loss. I'm glad you took some time off your blog to process your grief.

Being liberated from the compulsion to "fix" people and situations is a wonderful thing, isn't it? It has helped me be present to people and to love them better.

I wasn't familiar with Johann Hari's book, so thank you for putting it on my radar!

Oh, and... I almost never follow recipes exactly, but this is the one I used as a reference when I made my Taiwanese oily rice dish. This is truly one of my favorites. https://whattocooktoday.com/no-wrap-pressure-cooker-zongzi.html

Thank you so much for your condolences. It has been a terrible loss. And a few weeks ago we lost a beloved dog. It's been a grief filled year, though that's what comes when you love animals who generally don't outlive you.

Was it hard to come over to Substack? I'm very tempted to move here because it's so friendly to readers.

Thank you for the recipe. Godspeed with your writing work.
